NVIDIA announces next-generation OVX computing systems for building 3D virtual worlds

NVIDIA just announced the second generation of NVIDIA OVX™powered by next-generation GPU architecture and enhanced networking technology, ready to build Virtual 3D worlds Use leading 3D software applications and work immersively digital twin simulations on NVIDIA Omniverse Enterprise — a scalable, end-to-end platform that enables companies to build and run Metaverse applications.

NVIDIA OVX was launched last March and is being delivered to some of the world’s most demanding design and engineering teams from companies such as BMW Group and Jaguar Land Rover.

“Large-scale digital twins are redefining how nearly every industry plans, designs, and builds in the physical world,” said Bob Pette, vice president of professional visualization at NVIDIA. “NVIDIA OVX will provide the next-generation computing power required for the most complex digital twins of factories, buildings and entire cities.”

The new OVX systems are powered by the NVIDIA® L40 GPU, which is based on the next-generation NVIDIA GPU architecture and offers high levels of power and performance for building complex industrial digital twins.

The L40 GPU’s third-gen RT cores and fourth-gen Tensor cores will bring powerful features to Omniverse workloads running on OVX, including accelerated ray-tracing and path-tracing rendering of materials, physically accurate simulations, and the Generation of photorealistic synthetic 3D data. The L40 will also be available in NVIDIA Certified System™ Servers from major OEM vendors to run RTX workloads from the data center.

In addition to the L40 GPU, the new NVIDIA OVX includes the NVIDIA ConnectX®-7 SmartNIC, which offers improved network and storage performance and the precise timing synchronization required for true-to-life digital twins. ConnectX-7 offers support for 200G networks on every port and fast inline data encryption to accelerate data movement and increase security for digital twins.

Worldwide users accelerate performance

BMW Group and Jaguar Land Rover will be among the first to be equipped with the performance of the new systems.

“NVIDIA OVX and DRIVE Sim provide a powerful platform that enables us to simulate a variety of real-world driving scenarios to safely and efficiently test our next generation of connected and autonomous vehicles, as well as to replicate the customer journey to demonstrate vehicle features and functions,” said Alex Heslop, Director of Electrical, Electronic and Software Engineering at Jaguar Land Rover. “Using this technology to generate large volumes of high-resolution, physically accurate scenarios in a scalable and cost-effective manner will accelerate our progress towards our goal of a future with zero accidents and fewer congestions.”

Computer System Specifications

Each OVX server node combines eight NVIDIA L40 GPUs with three NVIDIA ConnectX-7 network adapters to deliver the performance of 100/200/400G networks. For Omniverse workloads that require higher levels of performance and scalability, the servers can be deployed in NVIDIA OVX POD and SuperPOD configurations with the NVIDIA Spectrum™-3 Ethernet platform.


Second-generation NVIDIA OVX systems will be available from Inspur, Lenovo, and Supermicro in early 2023, and will be offered by GIGABYTE, H3C, and QCT going forward.
